AKURE - CHAIRMAN of the Ondo State Teaching Service Commission, Chief Sanya Orungbemi, narrowly escaped an attack by suspected assassins who on weekend invaded his country home at Ikare in Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state calling for his head.
Also a member of the board of the Benin Owena River Basin Authority, Mr. Bimbo Fajulu, was seriously injured as he was attacked by suspected killers on his way to the state from Abuja.

He has been referred to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital for treatment following the injury sustained after the attack.
Chief Orungbemi who is the chairman of Dr. Olusegun Agagu Campaign committee in his local government reportedly traveled to his home town for a political meeting when the assassins came calling for his head.

Vanguard gathered that shortly after he left the venue of the meeting for another meeting in Akure, the suspects, nine of them, arrived in two vehicles looking for him. They reportedly searched endlessly for him at the venue and later left for his house because they did not believe that he had left for Akure when they were told by people who were still at the meeting.

It was learnt that they searched his house for over an hour to verify the claim that he had actually left. One of the suspects reportedly promised that they would trail him to his official quarters in Akure.

Meanwhile in an interview, Chief Orungbemi said the suspected assassins damaged some valuable properties in his home during their search. He said "the suspected assassins must have been sponsored" by an aspirant.

'I am not contesting, but I am the leader of the PDP in Akoko North East Local Government. There is much noise on who should produce House of Representatives between Akoko North East and Akoko North West."

According to him 'two of the aspirants jostling for the seat had received telephone calls asking them to step down or be assassinated." Chief Orugbemi told newsmen that he had reported the matter to the state government and the police for appropriate actions.
